The View Boston Grand Opening
Recently we celebrated the grand opening of The View Boston, a civic and commercial point of convergence for visitors and residents alike to encounter the city and an iconic landmark building from a new perspective. One of our most anticipated projects of the year, View Boston is located atop the Prudential Tower (the ‘Pru’), and encompasses three floors of interior and exterior observation decks, hospitality venues, and interactive exhibits offering an unparalleled birds-eye view of the city.
Lighting at the top of the the Pru is a new and improved beacon across the city’s evening skyline. While the PRUDENTIAL letters have not changed font or size, the rest of the lighting surrounding the top of the Pru warrants a second look. The lighting just above and below these iconic letters have been upgraded with a crisp and clean look, with a full range of colors to celebrate our beloved sports teams, holidays throughout the year, and to showcase the various charities during the ‘31 Nights of December’. What was once a level closed off to the public to house giant floodlights to uplight “the neck” of the Pru, this level has been transformed into a new open air observation deck, welcoming visitors to 360 views of Boston.
Additionally, the design team had the opportunity to create multiple hospitality venues: an indoor-outdoor bar on the 51st floor called Stratus; an all-day bistro on the 50th floor called The Beacon; and a pre-function area outside The Beacon with a mobile bar. Materially, there is an emphasis on glass throughout the spaces, both mirrored and transparent. The choice of reflective and transparent materials serves to constantly direct attention out to the views, and highlights the lighting program.
