Summer 2020 Promotions

We are thrilled to announce our latest firm promotions, continuing our commitment to growth and leadership within Lam Partners. Read all about Sarah and Jennifer below, and learn a few interesting facts, too!

Sarah Fisher, IALD, LEED BD+C, LC

Principal

Sarah has been obsessed with lighting for as long as anyone in her family can remember. Her career began in theatrical lighting, serving in all capacities, from lighting designer to union stagehand – and everything in between.

1. When did you know lighting design was for you?

My parents began taking me to rock concerts when I was in diapers. Eventually I just started watching the lighting & asking them a million questions that they couldn’t answer. In 4th or 5th grade my mom took me to see a play about the missing years of Shakespeare’s life. The show was an arena style performance (minimal set design and a few select props), which meant all location of place, timing and emotion had to be conveyed through the angle, color, shape and intensity of the light and it did exactly that. The lighting was completely transformative and I was enraptured.

2. What are three words you’d use to describe Lam Partners?

Passionate, think tank, funny

3. What would you be doing for a career if you weren’t in lighting design?

Production design for my favorite bands or a Museum exhibit designer.

4. Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Well obviously any city with amazing museums. Aside from that I truly fell in love with Tofino on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Tofino has that magical blend of northwest mountains, the coast, but paired with lakes too, Pacific Rim National Park, first nations art everywhere and the most amazing fish tacos!

5. Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

During high school and college I worked as an intern and eventually a contracted employee for the National Air & Space Museum at the Smithsonian. I studied theatrical lighting in undergrad, so long before I committed to architectural lighting. But I was fascinated by this whole other world of lighting and in the back of my mind figured I’d come back to it.

Jennifer Sanborn, LC, EIT, LEED AP

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

From a young age, Jennifer has been intrigued by how things work. She could often be found tinkering around her grandfather’s workshop, disassembling gadgets and creating new objects. Later on in life, this led her into the fascination with buildings and structures. Her interest in architecture grew when she attended Pennsylvania State University to study architectural engineering.

1. When did you know lighting design was for you?

When I learned about the Flynn modes and how lighting can create an emotion in a space even if you didn’t intend to create it.

2. What are three words you’d use to describe Lam Partners?

Collaborative, exciting, and refreshing!

3. What would you be doing for a career if you weren’t in lighting design?

Either architecture or civil engineering

4. Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Moreton Island just off the East coast of Australia. It was the most relaxing vacation spot I have ever been to.

5. Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I am adopted and my adopted mother reunited my half sister and I when I was just under 2 years of age.
