Reimagining an interconnected student experience was a core principle behind the renovation and expansion of this academic sports center. The lighting celebrates an architectural design that brings athletics, recreation, and wellness into daily student life.

Balancing the expansive volume of sports venues, sculpted ceilings with gentle curves, touched with wooden accents, soften the scale to create a unifying architectural expression. The design brings together diverse activities within the complex, encouraging community engagement.

The lighting design builds upon this blend of form and function, working to create a welcoming environment.
Illuminating sculpted volumes and emphasizing warm wood accents informs the basis of the lighting design strategy. Particular emphasis was placed on lighting perimeter surfaces, enhancing the building’s character and spatial experience.

Bespoke lighting solutions, tucked into pockets and details, illuminate architectural planes, accent materials, and enhance moments of interest and wayfinding.
The spaces feature layered lighting solutions, offering both functional task lighting and soft, indirect ambient illumination, supporting a wide range of activities and programs. In the sports facilities, innovative lighting and fixture solutions transform these utilitarian spaces into welcoming, well-lit environments. These solutions provide glare-free IES RP-6-recommended illuminances for each sport and level of play. In some spaces, they provide the flexibility of multi-purpose uses, with adjustable switching and dimming to tailor to the needs of various community activities and events.

The renovation and expansion of this academic sports center seamlessly integrates lighting and architecture to create an engaging, well-illuminated environment that supports athletics, recreation, and wellness. Thoughtfully designed to enhance architectural features and ensure optimal functionality, the lighting fosters a dynamic and interconnected student experience.
