Completed by Lam Principal Chris Stroik as STROIK Lighting Design, the 18,000 SF government conference center project, installed in a DC office building basement space, formerly used as a cafeteria, consisted in a large multipurpose auditorium and several smaller meeting rooms plus reception, circulation, breakout areas, and support spaces. Vertical surfaces that included identifying graphics are washed with the use of recessed downlights throughout circulation and lounge areas. Perforated ceilings glow with the use of concealed asymmetric indirect illumination of whitewashed shallow cavity surfaces netting an elegant modern expression of ornamentation throughout.
