Coming Soon: The Foundry Building
October 2021
At the intersection of the Kendall Square Innovation District and the East Cambridge neighborhood, The Foundry building will provide space and programs for the visual and performing arts, entrepreneurship, technology, and workforce education within its historic, industrial setting. The Foundry will also help facilitate access for residents, especially underrepresented communities and adjacent neighborhoods, to the dynamic working and learning environment of Kendall Square.
Originally constructed in 1890, the building is currently undergoing its second gut-renovation in its lifetime, intended to transform the structure into a self-sustaining center for creativity and collaboration for the Cambridge community. Programmed spaces including a community hall, workshops, art studios, and a black box theater are supported by market-rate office rental spaces on the upper levels. Lighting this blend of historic and contemporary architecture highlights the grand building volume and tactile materiality of over century-old brick and heavy timber construction while providing users with the flexibility for a variety of activities.
